Uzbekistan reaches an agreement on export of additional 28 types of fruit and vegetable products to Japan


Representatives of Uzdavkarantin state inspection visited Japan for further development of bilateral cooperation and discussion of compliance issues with phytosanitary measures in export of fruits and vegetables and held talks with leadership of Japanese quarantine service.

According to the Press Service of Uzdavkarantin Inspection, during the negotiations, the Japanese side approved a permit to export from Uzbekistan an additional 28 types of agricultural products, including persimmons, watermelons, raspberries, figs, peanuts, almonds, walnuts, beans, sesame, capers, zucchini, iceberg lettuce, dill, cilantro, parsley, celery, basil, arugula, lettuce, green onions, onions, carrots, cabbage, pumpkins, radishes and others. Now it is necessary to carry out quarantine control and fumigation of these products in necessary cases.

During the visit, the delegation members held a meeting at Japan Fumigation Technology Association to develop cooperation on fumigation of fruits and vegetables. They got acquainted with Japan’s experience in phytosanitary, in particular, with methods of inspection of quarantine goods in logistics centers, airports and quarantine laboratories on the basis of phytosanitary requirements, as well as inspection procedure of fruits and vegetables, melons and gourds. The parties reached an agreement on active cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA, which provides for establishment of cooperation with research centers for plant quarantine of the two countries, training and retraining.

Japanese experts expressed their readiness to accelerate exports from Uzbekistan as an exception of cherries, hot peppers, apples, peaches and plums.
